I spent my 20s in NYC as a budding "gastrogeographer" (love, love that term) and coming back to visit was super fun. You'll develop spots that you revisit every trip to help gauge what's happening and then there will be the spots you will try for the first time and wonder how it was possible you lived there for so long and never went before.
It's a good point in your life to try out a new town. I know your parents are spending more and more time in LA, but don't sleep on going someplace completely new and different.
